DARTMOUTH — Athletes from the ADCKC paddling clubs will compete for spots on the Atlantic Core Team at the Atlantic Team Trials this weekend (June 8th and 9th) on Lake Banook. This regatta will feature the best up and coming athletes throughout the Atlantic region competing in kayak, canoe, and Paracanoe events. The teams that are chosen often serve as strong development opportunities for athletes who go on to represent this region and Canada at the highest level.
“We look forward to seeing athletes compete at the first set of trials for the season on Lake Banook,'' says Erin Schaus Division Officials Coordinator. “It's great to see so many athletes coming out for this high-level event. It shows how the individual clubs are working hard to prepare their paddlers to start their racing season earlier than usual.”
The Atlantic Team Trials consist of 106 different races which showcase 172 Sprint Canoe-Kayak athletes. This regatta is for athletes aged U-16 and up. For the first time, this regatta will include C2 and K2 (kayak and canoe doubles events). Men’s C2 and K2 will be competing in the 1000 metre distance while the women’s C2 and K2 will be competing in the 500 metre. The schedule of races and results will be available at https://www.adckc.ca/schedule-results. Races will take run between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day.
This event is open to the public and we look forward to seeing a positive attendance to cheer on the dedicated athletes who will be competing.
