On Sunday (June 16th, 2019), 65 athletes competed in 2000m and 5000m Time Controls on Lake Banook.
The 2000m race was started based on seed times provided by club coaches. There were 7 start groups that ranged from 4-12 athletes. The 2000m races started at the finish line by Micmac Canoe Club, athletes completed 1 loop of the course (turning around the buoys placed at the 1000m start line, pictured), and finished by the tower.
2000m Winners:
Mens K1: Kailen Levy 9:14.65 Cheema
Womens K1: Mia Giles 10:43.59 Maskwa
Mens C1: Eric Chouinard 11:06.44 Micmac
Womens C1: Sara Neville 12:15.92 Banook
The 5000m race had two mass start groups. These start groups were determined from the seed times entered by club coaches. The groups consisted of 23 and 24 athletes respectively. The route for the 5000m race again started at the finish line by Micmac Canoe Club and proceeded down Lake Banook and continued under the bridge into Lake Micmac. The competitors stayed to the right of Lake Micmac and turned back at the 2500m mark buoys that were located near Shubie Park beach. The athletes then went back under the bridge and crossed the finish line in Lake Banook.
